Time 10:30am: TALK – Dr Neal Barnard

Dr Neal Barnard is well known for his research into diet and its effects on diabetes and chronic pain. He advocates for a plant ­based diet and his research contributed to the acceptance of plant ­based diets in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Dr Barnard will appear via Skype to give a talk at the Whangarei Vegan Expo this year.

 

Talk held in Bougainville Theatre.

 

Time TBC: TALK – Dr Mark Craig : Prevention & cure of illnesses with a plant based lifestyle

Dr Mark Craig is a general practitioner passionate about spreading awareness of the health benefits of a wholefoods plant­-based diet. He is an athlete who regularly competes in triathlon, biking and swimming events. Mark will present a talk on the prevention & cure of illnesses with a plant based lifestyle.

Time TBC: TALK – Grant Dixon

Grant Dixon is a Film Maker.  After a stint in hospital due to heart disease, Grant Dixon looked into the effects of animal products on the human body and the ways in which this information has been suppressed by organisations whose job it is to help us stay healthy.  In response, Grant made his own documentary – ‘The Big Fat Lie’ and aims to share what he has learned with the public.

Time TBC: TALK – Benjamin Eitelberg – Why Plant-Based is the Optimum Nutrition for Sport

Benjamin Eitelberg is a plant based triathlete who advocates a whole foods plant based diet to help athletes improve their performance.  He will be giving a talk on – “Why plant based is the optimum nutrition for sport”.

Franko Heke is a musician, pacific soul warrior, and yoga teacher. He is on a mission to raise consciousness through his music. Franko will be raising consciousness at our expo so come along to hear some excellent music!

Time TBC: TALK – Christian Huriwai – What’s wrong with dairy?

Kaikohe born activist Christian Huriwai works to raise awareness about issues surrounding animal agriculture. Christian is also a world champion street uni-cyclist, having won gold three times at the world championships. Christian will be giving a talk titled ‘What’s wrong with dairy?’.  You don’t want to miss it!

Time TBC : TALK – Jacques Laventure – Get fit eat well

Jacques Laventure believes going plant based is the best way to save our planet, and he uses technology to achieve this. His startup Get Fit Eat Well’s mission reflects the same philosophy. The platform teaches families to cook and eat healthy often. The company designs food battles with 3 main focuses: sustainability, zero food wastage and family bonding time. By becoming part of the Get Fit Eat Well community you are improving your health, the health of your family and the health of our planet.

Time TBC: TALK – Raniera Rewiri : Plant based Maori

Raniera Rewiri took on the title of the Plant ­based Maori after deciding to go vegan and alcohol free. He aims to use & promote vegan food as a message of good health and to change the stereotypical ways Maori are often depicted in the mainstream media. Raniera is an inspiring individual and you will not want to miss his talk at this year’s expo!

Time TBC: TALK – Amanda Sorrenson – Challenges of raising a child vegan

Amanda is from Auckland has been a board member and the national coordinator of the Vegan Society of Aotearoa New Zealand since 2011. She has been vegetarian since childhood and vegan since 2003. 13 years ago she gave birth to her son Rata who she has raised vegan. Her step daughter 22 is also now vege/vegan.

Amanda will speak about the rewards and challenges of raising a child vegan with attention paid to difficult social situations, mixed families, resistant extended family etc offering tips, advice and encouragement.

Time TBC: TALK – Yolanda Soryl – 30 years a vegan

Yolanda recently celebrated her 30th vegan anniversary. Join her on an entertaining look back on 30 years of veganism and what it takes to go vegan and stay vegan. She will share tips, vegan history and stories and take a humourus look at being vegan at a time when even the vegans didn’t know how to pronounce the word.

Yolanda is a butcher’s daughter who raised 4 children to adulthood as vegan from birth and is founder and President of the Christchurch Vegan Society and the Christchurch Vegan Expos.

About the Vegan Expo

Beginning in 2016, the Whangarei Vegan Expo is an annual event that exhibits the very best of veganism. Stallholders from around the country showcase their plant-based products and services, while speakers and presenters share the benefits of veganism. Previous years have seen 1500+ attendees, international guests, fun cooking demos, delicious food, live music and much more! We can’t wait to see you!
